Job Title: Theology Teacher – 2017-18 School Year

De La Salle North Catholic High School provides a faith-based, college-preparatory high school education to underserved students from the Portland area. Our goal is to develop tomorrow’s community leaders by making high-quality education accessible to motivated young people in a learning environment that values cultural, spiritual, and ethnic diversity. Our educational approach provides each student with the opportunity to succeed through small classes, high expectations, and active participation in our Corporate Work Study Program affiliated with the nationally-recognized Cristo Rey Network.
Position purpose: Theology Teacher in a Lasallian Catholic high school. We are looking for someone with a passion for Catholic ministry, a desire to embrace the Lasallian dual charism of faith and zeal, and a passion for building a strong Lasallian Catholic pedagogical team to work with young students in an urban setting.
Major responsibilities: Teach five sections of Theology to an ethnically and religiously diverse group of high school students.
Essential job functions:
1. Work collaboratively with a department team focused on student achievement and data-driven interventions;
2. Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction to address
3. Be present at all staff meetings, retreats, and celebrations;
4. Prepare lessons, grade student work, maintain digital gradebook, and use Google Apps;
5. Build and maintain positive relationships with students and instructional team;
6. Communicate effectively with families;
7. Help with vigilance at school assemblies, prayer services, masses and other class or school gatherings;
8. Help with lunch-time prefecting duties as a Level Team member
1. Masters’ Degree in Theology from a Catholic University;
2. Experience in teaching at all levels of high school;
3. Preferred experience with curriculum development, specifically work with the US Catholic Bishops’
Curriculum Framework for Catechetical Materials;
4. Utilize effective research-based instruction and assessment;
5. Bi-lingual in Spanish preferred

The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding planning, collaboration and communication skills, as well as excellent administration and leadership of faculty, curriculum, and student affairs in the tradition of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, and the strategic growth plan of the school.
